First prize ($35,000) winners of the Elsevier Grand Challenge

First and Second Prize winners announced in the Elsevier Grand Challenge. The winning team's project, titled, "Reflect: Automated Annotation of Scientific Terms," won members a prize of $35,000 and recognition for creating the most innovative and implementable prototype for a tool for dealing with the ever-increasing amount of online life sciences information. Second prize, $15,000, was awarded to for the project, "CORAAL-Dive into Publications, Bathe in the Knowledge," to a team from DERI, in Ireland.

Elsevier announced three prize winners in the Article 2.0 Contest. First prize was received by Inigo Surguy, who met the challenge of developing a creative and useful solution for rendering journal articles on the web, with his demonstration of how Web 1.0, Web 2.0 and Web 3.0/Semantic web approaches can be combined to add value to an article's content.

Elsevier announced the winners of the 3rd Annual Scopus Young Indian Scientist Award.
Elsevier awards Medical Library Association $80,000 training grant for librarians in the African, Asian and Latin American continents, enabling Lenny Rhine, University of Florida Librarian Emeritus, to stage eight onsite workshops and one distance learning course for the UN HINARI, AGORA and OARE initiatives.
The RICH2007-NIMA Young Scientist Award was awarded during the RICH2007 conference to Federica Sozzi of the Universita' di Trieste for her relevant contributions to the exploitation of the COMPASS-RICH1 detector. Guillaume Lambert was awarded the 'NIMA Young Scientist Award in Free Electron Laser'.
