“Will “botox” be the aspirin of the 21st century?” is the question asked by the winning article of the 2007 David Horrobin Prize for medical theory. Written by Erle CH Lim and Raymond CS Seet of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, “Botulinum toxin, Quo Vadis?” was judged to best embody the spirit of the journal.
Karl A. Gschneidner, Jr., senior metallurgist at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Ames Laboratory, has been selected for the prestigious 2008 Acta Materialia Gold Medal cosponsored by Elsevier and considered by many scientists and engineers to be the top award worldwide in the field of materials research.

The Second Scopus Young Indian Scientist Awards are given to nine outstanding young Indian scientists to inspire the advancement of Indian Science.
Elsevier awards Medical Library Association $80,000 training grant for librarians in the African, Asian and Latin American continents, enabling Lenny Rhine, University of Florida Librarian Emeritus, to stage eight onsite workshops and one distance learning course for the UN HINARI, AGORA and OARE initiatives.
The RICH2007-NIMA Young Scientist Award was awarded during the RICH2007 conference to Federica Sozzi of the Universita' di Trieste for her relevant contributions to the exploitation of the COMPASS-RICH1 detector. Guillaume Lambert was awarded the 'NIMA Young Scientist Award in Free Electron Laser'.

Awarded to Professor Herbert Gleiter, Institute of Nanotechnology, FZK, Germany for his inspired lecture at the opening session entitled ‘Are there Ways to Synthesise Materials Beyond the Limits of Today?’.
