The 2007 Nobel Prize Laureates

Elsevier would like to congratulate all of this year's Nobel Laureates and, in particular, those we have the honor of working with in the creation and dissemination of ground-breaking research.

 

Nobel Peace Prize

External linkThe Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and External linkAlbert Arnold (Al) Gore Jr. were awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize

"for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change".

We are also proud to announce that many Elsevier Editors and Editorial Board members have played significant roles as authors and reviewers for the 2007 and three previous IPCC reports conducted since 1990.  Rajendra Pachauri, Chair of the IPCC, is an Editorial Board Member of Energy Policy and an Associate Editor for the Encylopedia of Energy.

Nobel Prize in Physics

This year's Nobel Prize for physics was awarded to Albert Fert (France, 1938) and Peter Grünberg (Germany, 1939)

"for the discovery of Giant Magnetoresistance".

Besides publishing many of their own papers with Elsevier, Albert Fert is currently an Advisory Member to the Editorial Board of the Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials.

Nobel Prize in Chemistry

This year's Nobel Prize for Chemistry was awarded to Gerhard Ertl (Germany, 1936)

"for his studies of chemical processes on solid surfaces".

Besides publishing extensively with Elsevier, Gerhard Ertl is a member of the Advisory Editorial Board for Elsevier's Chemical Physics Letters and Chinese Journal of Catalysis, and formerly a handling editor for both Surface Science and Surface Science Reports.

Nobel Prize in Medicine

This year's Nobel Prize for Medicine was awarded to Mario R. Capecchi (USA, 1937), Sir Martin J. Evans (UK, 1941) and Oliver Smithies (USA, 1925)

"for their discoveries of principles for introducing specific gene modifications in mice by the use of embryonic stem cells".

Nobel Prize in Economics

This year, the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2007 was awarded to Leonid Hurwicz (USA, 1917), Eric S. Maskin (USA, 1950) and Roger B. Myerson (USA, 1951)

"for having laid the foundations of mechanism design theory".

Besides publishing much of their own work with Elsevier, Leonid Hurwicz has been an author of Elsevier's handbooks in economics series; Eric Maskin is Editor of Elsevier's Economics Letters and a member of the Editorial Board for Elsevier's Games and Economic Behavior; and Roger Myerson has been involved in the editorial boards of the Journal of Economic Theory and Games and Economic Behavior.
