MEASURING JOURNAL PERFORMANCE

There are many ways in which journal performance can be measured and compared. The most appropriate measure(s) will depend on the aspect of the journal that is being evaluated, and no single approach will always be the most useful for a given title or at any given time.

This information will give you a good overview of the possibilities. If you would like analysis for your journal, or want to learn more, we welcome your questions and comments. You can get in touch with the Research and Academic Relations Department though your regular publishing contact.

Research and Academic Relations Department

Measuring Journal Performance

Elsevier is uniquely equipped to provide detailed and expert advice on your journal’s performance, through our Research and Academic Relations Department. Our team is very experienced in bibliometric analysis, generating and interpreting customized reports to highlight a journal’s areas of excellence, as well as opportunities for improved performance. Our team has extensive knowledge about the benefits of responsible citation analysis, as well as its limitations. These web-pages will introduce you to the analyses we can provide for Editors.

Feedback Programs

The Department also records, on a continuous basis, the opinions of Editors, Authors and Reviewers, amongst others. The various Feedback Programmes give us valuable insight into our customers’ experiences, and help our staff to target their efforts for constant improvement.

Communication

We share our knowledge widely within Elsevier and outside. The Department has a small but influential publication record in scholarly journals.

We publish a regular Editors’ Update newsletter that aims to keep you abreast of developments within the company and in scientific publishing in general. We also organise four Editors’ Conferences each year.
