The report outlines a range of initiatives undertaken during 2007, as well as achievements to date such as the 13% decrease in carbon emissions since 2003 (when normalised against business growth). Our editors have long-standing and distinguished careers in their respective fields. Some recent achievements are highlighted in this section.

Stephen Colagiuri has been named the new Editor-in-Chief of Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice, effective April 1, 2008. Professor Colagiuri takes over from Professor Nigishi Hotta who has been acting as Editor-in-Chief since 2004 and now becomes an Honorary Editor-in-Chief of Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice, the official journal of the International Diabetes Federation/Western Pacific Region. Stephen Colagiuri is Professor of Metabolic Health at the University of Sydney. His research interests focus on development and implementation of evidence-based guidelines, cardiometabolic risk assessment, diabetes screening and prevention, the glycemic index, and economic aspects of diabetes and obesity. He has over 100 publications in scientific journals and books, and is a past President of the Australian Diabetes Society.

Rajendra Pachauri, Editorial Board Member of Energy Policy and an Associate Editor for the Encylopedia of Energy, serves as the Chair of External link  The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which (together with External link  Albert Arnold (Al) Gore Jr.) was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change".

Narayanaswamy Balakrishnan is the 2008 winner of the Don Owen Award for excellence in research and teaching. Presented annually by the San Antonio chapter of the American Statistical Association (ASA), the award is named after Don Owen, a distinguished professor of statistics at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
