Training & Development/Educational Assistance Programme
The company recognises that Education, Training and Development of its people at all levels is a key factor in continuously improving business performance. It is the policy of the company to support and encourage Education, Training and Development initiatives and activities in support of business goals.
In terms of the Educational Assistance Programme, having met the criteria and upon approval of the course (based on the employees Training & Development Plan, Succession planning, etc.), Elsevier Ireland Ltd will contribute 100% towards the course costs of the employee at commencement of the programme (i.e. Certificated/Degree/Masters Courses), once all pre-requisite documents have been submitted i.e. application forms, invoices, etc.
Approval is subject to the availability of funds which are monitored by the Human Resources Manager and Managing Director.
Flexi time
A full time working week at Elsevier Ireland Ltd consists of 37.5 work hours. To help meet increasing business demands and improve work life balance, it is important that we work in close partnership. Flexible working aims to shift the emphasis to results and delivery of goals while helping raise staff motivation and commitment, improve staff retention, help the company attract skilled staff and support one of our key values – valuing our people.
Core Time is from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. each working day. This is the minimum time-span during which employees, unless on excused absence, are required to attend at their place of work.
Holidays
The Company holiday year operates on a calendar basis, i.e., it runs from January 1st - December 31st of each year. All leave entitlement, whether service-related or otherwise must be taken during the holiday year.
The basic holiday entitlement is 21 working days. After two years service, one day’s holiday is allowed over the basic entitlements. After four years service two extra days holidays are allowed over the basic holiday entitlements. Thereafter, after each 10 years service, an extra one day's annual leave will be awarded.
These entitlements will be provided on a pro-rata basis for part-time employees.
Extended Leave Policy
Elsevier Ireland Ltd understands that there may be situations when an employee has a need to be absent from work for a period of time over and above their normal holiday entitlement. Whilst EIL and its employees recognise that such requests cannot always be accommodated due to the business needs, EIL is committed to investigating the feasibility of such requests and accommodating them where possible.
Pension Scheme
Elsevier offers staff a Defined Contribution Pension which is provided by Hewitt Associates Limited. Employees (both permanent and fixed term workers) who have attained age 25 and completed at least 6 months’ continuous service with the Company. Elsevier Ireland Limited also contributes to the employee’s pension scheme. The Company will also insure the life of the Employee.
Private Health Insurance
Elsevier offers private health insurance to all employees once they have completed 6 months of service.
Sick Pay Scheme
Employees are eligible to be included in the Sick Pay Scheme once they have successfully completed 6 months service with the Company. The standard Sick Day Entitlements are 20 working days and this can increase to a maximum of 35 working days (based on years of service).
Maternity Leave
We pay enhanced maternity benefit (i.e. employee receives full normal take home pay less social welfare contributions) during the initial 18 weeks maternity leave to permanent employees.
Paternity Leave
Paternity Leave is viewed as a Family friendly/Work-Life Balance Policy designed to assist employees to reconcile their personal, family and work responsibilities. Paid paternity Leave is only applicable to Fathers on the birth of their children.
Employee Assistance Programme
EIL provides an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for all employees and members of their immediate family household.
EAP offers free confidential consultation covering a broad range of personal problems such as those relating to stress, finance, marital or personal relationships, alcohol or drug abuse and many others.

Sports & Social Club
The Sports and Social Club is run independently by an elected committee of members of staff. Members pay a monthly subscription, which is matched by the Company, and in return can take part in the outings and activities organised.

A subsidised restaurant is provided for employees' comfort and convenience.
