COMPREHENSIVE TOXICOLOGY
Comprehensive Toxicology
Volume 3: Biotransformation

Edited by
F.P. Guengerich, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville, TN, USA

Description

This volume deals with the enzymatic processes involved in the biotransformation of toxic and potentially toxic chemicals. The first section provides introductory material on general aspects of history, regulation, mechanism, inhibition, and stimulation of the enzymes in this group. The bulk of the volume is comprised of chapters dealing with the current status of enzymes involved in oxidation, reduction, hydrolysis, and conjugation of xenobiotic chemicals. Each chapter is organized to cover the current status of enzyme multiplicity and nomenclature, gene and protein structure, regulation, catalytic mechanism, substrate specificity, human studies, and relevance to issues in toxicology.
