Description
Advances in Cell Aging and Gerontology (ACAG) is dedicated to providing timely review articles on prominent and emerging research in the area of molecular, cellular and organismal aspects of aging and age-related disease. The average human life expectancy continues to increase and, accordingly, the impact of the dysfunction and diseases associated with aging are becoming a major problem in our society. The field of aging research is rapidly becoming the niche of thousands of laboratories worldwide that encompass expertise ranging from genetics and evolution to molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry and behavior. ACAG consists of edited volumes that each critically review a major subject area within the realms of fundamental mechanisms of the aging process and age-related diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and neurodegenerative disorders. Particular emphasis is placed upon: the identification of new genes linked to the aging process and specific age-related diseases; the elucidation of cellular signal transduction pathways that promote or retard cellular aging; understanding the impact of diet and behavior on aging at the molecular and cellular levels; and the application of basic research to the development of lifespan extension and disease prevention strategies. ACAG will provide a valuable resource for scientists at all levels from graduate students to senior scientists and physicians.
