Description
The Second International Symposium on Partial Left Ventriculectomy (PLV) was a great success. Attendees included distinguished guests from all over the world and Dr. R.J.V. Batista, the founder and pioneer of this unique and creative procedure. It was an opportunity for discussions on new and recent surgical procedures and developments for safe and effective applications of PLV including the development of a method of selection for those who will benefit from the procedure.

This book discusses the many difficult but pertinent problems faced in treating patients with advanced heart failure. PLV has the potential to greatly improve the condition of these patients. Left Ventricular Volume Reduction surgery is a powerful method of treating the failing heart and not only a superb adjunct to cardiac replacement therapy but as a substitute for cardiac transplantation. The promotion and further study of this procedure is fundamental for better understanding and for brighter prospects for the next century.
