Description
Engineering Village 2
Engineering environments are information intensive. Whether an academic or industrial setting, the right
information and the right research tools are essential for success. With this in
mind,
Engineering Village 2™ was designed specifically for engineers, engineering students, researchers and affiliated information
professionals to ensure each can gain desktop access to the critical information, intelligence, and research tools they need to succeed.
Engineering Village 2 offers engineers a powerful web-based discovery platform featuring the broadest scope and coverage of scholarly
literature, trade publications, patents, hard-to-find conference proceedings, technical reports, and engineering information available
anywhere.
Engineering Village 2 Resources:
Compendex™
Finding published literature can be a real challenge.
Hundreds of thousands of articles on engineering topics from all over the world are published each year. Regardless of the tremendous
number of published papers, researchers can't afford to overlook literature affecting their areas of study. But how can anyone filter
through all of the possibilities and remain aware of findings that could impact their work?
Well-informed engineering researchers
rely on the Compendex database, the definitive bibliographic database for engineering literature. Containing over 7.8 million records
and dating from 1969 through the present, Compendex covers engineering literature from across the globe. Spanning 175 engineering disciplines,
its coverage is unmatched. References to the most influential scholarly journals, trade magazines, and hard-to-find conference proceeding
are thoroughly indexed for optimum search and retrieval. Weekly updates ensure the utmost in information currency.
Engineering
Index Backfile
No matter how advanced science becomes, we always need to remember its foundations. Today's innovations are built
upon the findings of the past. A definitive historical record provides a solid starting point, and the perspective required to fuel progress.
When Dr. John Butler Johnson first published the Engineering Index in 1884, he intended to provide engineers with coverage of truly
relevant published literature. Remarkable, early editions covered monumental events including Daimler's internal combustion engine, the
construction of the Brooklyn Bridge, Wilbur Wright's quest for flight, construction of the New York City subway system, and many other
historic achievements. And since its founding, the Engineering Index has covered virtually every major engineering innovation from across
the globe, serving as an indispensable resource for generations of engineers.
For the first time, the Engineering Index Backfile
has been digitized, indexed, and made fully searchable - exclusively on Engineering Village 2. Every word from this 1.7 million record
collection has been manually re-keyed to ensure the highest possible quality. References for literature published from 1884-1968 can
be seamlessly searched along with your current subscription to Compendex. With powerful search capabilities, the Engineering Index Backfile
is more useful and more accessible than the print version ever was.
Inspec®
Information technology and electronics
are among today's fastest growing and most exciting research areas. Published by the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) the Inspec
database provides a specialized focus on literature published in the areas of electrical engineering, computing and control, physics,
and information technology. Inspec contains over 7.5 million records dating from 1969 and draws upon 3,500 scientific and technical journals
and 1,500 conference proceedings for coverage. Combined searches of Inspec with the Compendex database ensure the most complete coverage
of published engineering literature possible.
NTIS Database
Governments from around the world spend hundreds of millions
of dollars each year sponsoring and funding scientific research. And much of this research appears only in non-classified government
documents and reports, making it virtually impossible to find without the NTIS Database. With over 2.1 million records dating form 1899
to the present, the NTIS database represents billions of dollars of government-sponsored research. Sources include over 240 U.S. government
agencies, NASA, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Defense; plus international agencies such as the Japan Ministry of International
Trade and Industry, Germany's Federal ministry of Research and Technology, and the U.K.'s Department of Industry. Engineering researchers
cannot afford to overlook this extensive body of government-sponsored findings.
Subject Coverage Includes:
• Building
Industry Technology • Chemistry • Energy and Power • Environmental Pollution and Control • Industrial
and Mechanical Engineering • Materials Science • Natural Resources • Propulsion and Fuels
Referex
Engineering
The engineering disciplines are exceptionally information intensive and engineers, students and researchers alike
rely upon a strong foundation of reference information if they are to be effective in their work. Finding useful and reliable reference
information has traditionally been a time-consuming process, which diverts attention from the true tasks at hand: problem solving, innovation,
and development.
Referex Engineering is a specialized electronic reference product, drawing upon over 300 premium engineering titles
to provide engineers, students and researchers with the answers they require at work and in practice. Referex Engineering consists of
three reference collections: Mechanical and Materials, Chemical, Petrochemical and Process, and Electronics and Electrical, and its designed
to make reference information more quickly accessible to researchers.
Referex Engineering is designed upon a concept of layering
to create an unparalleled breadth and depth of reference content. From broad-based handbooks to professional reference materials and
how-to guides through monographs and scholarly literature, Referex Engineering excels in coverage and specialization. Users can search
through the full-text of hundreds of electronic books and retrieve full-text documents within the Engineering Village 2 environment.
Referex Engineering on Engineering Village 2 will allow users to:
• Search all Referex Engineering collections simultaneously
or restrict searching to a single collection. Search the full-text for keywords or perform file-restricted searches on title, author
name, or ISBN. Select to view titles based on subject category. • Browse result lists including section title, book name, and
bibliographic information. Cover images and relevance ratings are displayed with each record. • Link to detailed book descriptions,
the full-text section and sub-section in PDF format.
More Content Choices
The information needs of engineers are seemingly
endless, yet Engineering Village 2 strives to offer the research tool and content necessary for successful engineering related discovery.
In addition to hosted content sources, Engineering Village 2's powerful environment can be used to search select news, e-books, patents,
and product specifications databases.
• Access to more than 210 leading engineering handbooks from CRC Press' award-wining ENGnetBASE.
• Daily news feeds from Lexis Nexis to ensure you and your business are kept informed on engineering
news and industry information. • Search for registered patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and The European
Patent Office.
