For articles accepted after September 1, 2007, Elsevier will deposit author manuscripts of primary research articles, along with an article's supplemental data, on which any HHMI scientist is an author - including HHMI investigators, group leaders and fellows at the Janelia Farm Research Campus, and other institute employees - to PubMed Central (PMC), the digital archive of biomedical and life sciences literature maintained by the National Institutes of Health. The author's manuscript will have been through the peer-review process and accepted for publication, but will not yet have undergone editing and formatting.

Individual scientists will not be charged for this service. Upon article acceptance, authors should indicate on the journal publishing agreement that they are HHMI scientists. Elsevier will ensure that the manuscripts are deposited and made publicly available on PMC within 6 months of publication.  Prior to manuscripts being posted on PMC, PMC will request the lead author to confirm that the manuscript to be posted corresponds with the manuscript accepted for publication.
