Q What is the author's benefit?
A The authors are informed about research that is of interest to them. The authors are informed about who and where their articles have been cited as they are cited. Authors gain professional recognition and exposure for their work.
Q What is Elsevier's benefit?
A To increase citations to Elsevier articles. To be able to link authors of similar research together.
Q Will this service give more attention for new journals?
A By increasing the visibility of a new journal the attention of the new journal will be naturally increased.
Q Are the artilces that are being cited from other publishers? e.g. Springer, Wiley etc?
A Yes! CiteAlert is sent to authors who have had previously had a relationship with Elsevier ie they have previously authored a paper in an Elsevier journal.
Q Why only articles three years back?
A Indeed, this is only 20% of the cited articles. But it is more recent research which makes it more likely that the author is still active in this field.
Q Doesn’t Scopus has such a service already?
A Yes, but you have to register for it and be able to access Scopus.
Q Are the high cited authors not bombarded with emails?
A We are currently developing the possiblity of being able to offer authors the choice of frequency. This will mean that a highly cited author will be given the choice to receive a CiteAlert email only once a month.
Q Can people opt-out?
A Yes they can and then they won’t receive emails from us anymore.
Q Do authors receive an overview of all their citations?
A No currently they only receive reports of citations from newly published articles by Elsevier journal.
