Mount Laurel, N.J., 28 May 2009 - The American Association of Heart Failure Nurses (AAHFN) is pleased to announce its collaboration with Elsevier in adopting Heart & Lung: The Journal of Acute and Critical Care as the official journal of the AAHFN. Nancy S. Redeker, PhD, RN, FAHA, FAAN will serve as associate editor representing AAHFN.
“Collaborating with Heart & Lung allows AAHFN to not only highlight new data that is important to our members but also allows us to engage in a dialogue on a national and international level about the current and future state of heart failure care and heart failure nursing,” said Sue Wingate, RN, PhD, CRNP, President of AAHFN.
“We welcome the opportunity to partner with such an important group and look forward to Heart & Lung: The Journal of Acute and Critical Care becoming an even stronger voice in the treatment and care of heart failure patients throughout the world,” said Cheryl L. Mee, MSN, MBA, RN, CMSRN, Vice President, U.S. Nursing and Health Professions Journals, Elsevier. “Nurses are vital to the care of heart failure patients and their work significantly impacts outcomes with this patient population. This partnership will advance the documentation and dissemination of this important work.”
As an accomplished speaker and writer in cardiovascular nursing, critical care, and adult health, Dr. Redeker is devoted to promoting evidence-based nursing practice through research and education. “I am delighted to have the opportunity to represent AAHFN in this exciting new partnership with Heart & Lung,” said Dr. Redeker. “This role provides a major opportunity to improve health care and quality of life for the large population of heart failure patients. The excellent work to be published in Heart & Lung will provide a significant resource for interdisciplinary clinicians and scientists whose focus is improving outcomes for these patients.”
Dr. Redeker is Professor and Associate Dean of Scholarly Affairs at Yale University School of Nursing. Her program of research is focused on sleep, sleep disorders, and circadian rhythms of activity-rest in persons who have heart disease. Dr. Redeker has also conducted studies on symptoms of home care clients with heart failure and psychosocial responses of patients with heart disease. Her clinical interests and experience include sleep and cardiovascular nursing in community as well as acute care and home care settings.
Dr. Redeker earned a BA in Sociology from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, a BSN and an MSN in nursing from Seton Hall University, and a PhD in nursing research from New York University. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the American Heart Association’s Council on Cardiovascular Nursing.
Heart & Lung presents original, peer-reviewed articles on techniques, advances, investigations, and observations in acute and critical care, respiratory and heart failure nursing. The Journal’s acute care articles focus on critical care provided for a short time, often outside the intensive care unit. The Journal’s heart failure articles focus on improving heart failure patient outcomes. Other sections focus on infection control, neonatal nursing, advanced practice nursing, pharmacotherapy, ethical issues, and patient education. Many articles provide nurses with a framework for applying research results in clinical practice.
