New York, 22 August 2008 – The final deadline for Elsevier Foundation grant proposals is September 15, 2008. Grant proposals will be accepted in two categories: the Innovative Libraries Program and the New Scholars Program. The Elsevier Foundation will award grants in December 2008 with a series of one, two and three year grants awarded between US$5,000 to US$50,000 per year.
The Innovative Libraries Program awards grants to increase researchers’ access, expand library resources through digitization, provide training programs for library staff, students or researchers and sponsor partnerships between libraries in developing and developed countries. The Elsevier Foundation New Scholars Program will give priority to members of the academic and research community who seek to address the fundamental challenge of balancing childcare and family responsibilities with the demanding academic careers in science, health, and technology.
“The Elsevier Foundation aims to improve the quality of life for people throughout the world by supporting the advancement of, and access to, scientific, technical and medical knowledge,” said David Ruth, Executive Director of the Elsevier Foundation. “Our grant winners are recognized for their efforts enabling talented individuals from diverse backgrounds to develop successful careers, maximizing the benefit to science and society."
