Amsterdam, August 22, 2007 – Elsevier, the leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information and producer of EMBASE, announces that agreements have been signed with both Thomson Scientific and Wolters Kluwer Health to host the new   EMBASE Classic bibliographic database on DataStar, Dialog, Ovid and SilverPlatter beginning fall 2007. This EMBASE Classic release will mark the first time that the EMBASE backfile from 1947-1973 will be accessible in electronic form. It will enable institutions to obtain perpetual access to this important body of information. To celebrate the upcoming release of EMBASE Classic, an introductory pre-launch sales offer is currently available.

EMBASE Classic is a fully digitized 27-year backfile that is drawn from 43 Excerpta Medica Abstract Journal print titles and includes more than 1.8 million bibliographic records of articles published in 3,000 international biomedical and pharmacological titles.

EMTREE, Elsevier's Life Science Thesaurus, has been implemented across the file for precision retrieval. The thesaurus contains over 52,000 preferred terms and more than 215,000 synonyms.
