MLA-Phoenix, Arizona, USA, 22 May 2006 – Elsevier, the world’s largest medical publisher, today announced it is demonstrating its Electronic Health Record (EHR) integration capabilities to the medical librarians at the U.S.-based Medical Library Association annual conference. iCONSULT delivers real-time clinical decision support by putting evidence-based clinical reference content directly into the electronic workflow of health practitioners.
“The medical librarian is a critical link to a healthcare organization’s access to medical and nursing clinical reference information,” says Daniel Pollock, Elsevier’s Executive Publisher, Clinical Decision Support. “That information has to be available where the physician and nurse need it, which is increasingly from within the EHR.”
Elsevier developed iCONSULT to integrate its clinical reference content directly into the electronic workflow and enhance clinical decision support. Content is indexed against industry standard clinical vocabularies, patient demographics and organized around the clinician’s workflow, allowing iCONSULT to deliver rapid answers to specific patient scenarios directly into the electronic medical record.
Using iCONSULT, healthcare organizations can integrate Elsevier’s premier medical, nursing and drug information directly into their EHR applications to better support the healthcare provider. Elsevier is working with an increasing number of EHR vendors to better support the medical librarian, including: Epic Systems Corporation; GE Healthcare; Misys Healthcare Systems; McKesson; MDTablet; MedAppz and Healthvision.
