EMCare, a new nursing and allied health database launched by Elsevier

Amsterdam, 29 November 2005 – Today Elsevier Bibliographic Databases introduced the beta version of EMCare at Online Information 2005, London. EMCare is a new bibliographic database drawn from more than 2,700 international source titles and includes close to 2 million records from the nursing, allied health and biomedical literature.

Competitively priced, EMCare is an affordable alternative to other nursing and allied health databases, providing an important information resource for professionals engaged in patient care, scientific research and education. EMCare supports the practice of evidence-based treatment in a wide variety of settings – from hospitals and office-based practices to community, rural, correctional, flight, forensic, school and camp, home, hospice and military healthcare facilities. Equally important, it furnishes timely access to critical information about the scientific advancements that lead to more cost-effective and higher quality healthcare. Coverage is comprehensive and includes evidence-based healthcare, all nursing specialties and professions, nursing education and training, nursing development and management, health and health care economics, midwifery, clinical, medical and healthcare social work, psychiatry and mental health, traumatology, emergency and critical care medicine, emergency services, biomedicine, dental hygiene, nutrition and dietetics, physical therapy and surgical technology. EMCare includes unique content not found in other nursing and allied health databases and features 1,200 titles not covered by EMBASE.

EMCare's precise indexing guarantees consistent retrieval of relevant records across the entire database. Underlying this indexing is EMTREE: Elsevier’s Life Science Thesaurus, which has been significantly expanded with close to 1,500 nursing terms in addition to existing allied health terms. An extensive list of synonyms serves as precision entry points. Unique fields enable searching for numeric indexing codes including, Molecular Sequence Numbers and Enzyme Commission Numbers. Trade and Device names are also indexed in EMCare.
