Amsterdam, 13 June 2005 – Elsevier, a world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information, is pleased to announce that it recently was honored by EMC Corporation for its achievement in Enterprise Content Management (ECM.) The award was conferred on Elsevier for deployment of one of the most innovative software applications based on EMC’s ECM technologies, in this case, Documentum.
Elsevier faced the challenge of devising a Web Content Management solution for its Corporate Website (www.elsevier.com), that allowed creation, editing and publishing of localized web content, images, automated newsfeeds and multimedia, featured world class search capability, but removed dependence on developers to manage the site. Highly successful consolidation to one Documentum ECM platform solution, providing a suite of tools for diversity of uses and making content accessible and re-usable instead of hidden away in widespread legacy systems, won Elsevier the EMC “Outstanding Success Story” award.
Using the Documentum platform, Elsevier was able to broaden the application into an enterprise solution with real potential to maximize reuse, not just of content, but also workflows and best practices. Additional benefits included greatly improved communication and collaboration within and across work groups and sites, as well as ongoing convergence of back office solutions, such as scanning of global orders, accounts payable and receivable invoices and global contracts. Implementation of a second web application that uses Documentum Web Content Management as the solution for Elsevier’s leading Health Science platform MDConsult (www.mdconsult.com) will shortly be completed, as well.
Comments Paul Leland, Elsevier’s ECM Programme Director, “We are very pleased to receive this recognition from EMC, aligning with our own corporate value of Innovation. Implementation of the single Documentum solution provides manageable central storage in line with our XML content repository strategy. It gives us the ability to integrate with existing applications, and serves the demands of multiple websites. By taking this route, we now have the room to accommodate the growth necessary to meet the constantly changing and increasing needs of the business.
