Elsevier appoints Tony McSean Director of Library Relations

         

Amsterdam, 23 July 2004 - Elsevier is pleased to announce that Tony McSean has been appointed as the new Director of Library Relations.  Mr. McSean will begin his new position at Elsevier shortly and will report to Bridget Taxy, Director of Marketing, Science & Technology, Elsevier. Mr. McSean will be responsible for developing and enhancing Elsevier's relationships with librarians worldwide.

Mr. McSean, who will be based in Oxford (UK) joins Elsevier from the British Medical Association where he was chief librarian for the past 15 years. Prior to that, he was the head of marketing and support for the British Library’s national bibliographic service and also worked in the university libraries of Limerick, Ulster and Southampton and spent three years with Geac Computers.

Commenting on Mr McSean's appointment, Arie Jongejan, CEO, Science & Technology, Elsevier said:  “Tony will be instrumental in identifying the important needs and opportunities Elsevier needs to address with our librarians.  We are launching a major librarian outreach program during the next two years, and Tony will play an important part in our dialogue with customers to make sure that Elsevier provides a service that fully meets their requirements, now and in the future.''

Mr. McSean earned a BA at the University College of Wales, where he went on to earn his Library Diploma.  He has been on the Board of the European Association for Health Information and Libraries since 1991 and has serve twice as president. Other associations of which Mr. McSean is a member include CILIP, and its predecessor, the Council of the Library Association, where he has served since 1996.
