The Seymour Fisher Outstanding Body Image Dissertation Annual Award

Body Image: An International Journal of Research will annually recognize an outstanding doctoral dissertation on the topic of body image. The award is deservedly named for the late Dr. Seymour Fisher, whose scholarly contributions to the field were both seminal and prolific. Each year’s recipient will be announced in the next year’s first quarterly issue of the journal. The recipient will be awarded a monetary prize of $1000, provided through the generous endowment of Seymour Fisher’s loving family in support of continued body image scholarship in his memory.

Eligibility Criteria and Submission Procedures for the Award

  1. The English-language doctoral dissertation must have been completed and successfully defended within the past two years (e.g., the 2004 award is for approved dissertations from 2003 or 2004).
  2. The dissertation research may or may not have been published or submitted for publication by this journal or elsewhere. Although we strongly encourage submission to Body Image as a dissertation summary and abstract, this is not a requirement.
  3. One copy of the complete dissertation document, with the accompanying signed page of committee approval, should be sent by postal mail to:
    Thomas F. Cash. Ph.D.
Editor-in-Chief, Body Image: An International Journal of Research
    7104 Lemuria Circle, Unit 102
    Naples, Florida 34109 USA
(Electronic copies of the document will not be accepted.)
  4. The annual deadline for receipt of a submission is August 15th.
  5. Any questions about the process should be sent to Dr. Tom Cash at tom_cash@comcast.net
