Brief description of the topic:

The main source of papers for this special issue is the ORP3 meeting (Operational Research Peripatetic Postgraduate Programme) covering all fields of Operational Research. There is a requirement that the main authors of submitted papers should be pre-doctoral students or doctoral researchers with no more than 2 years of post-doctoral experience. The aim is to produce a special issue which would contain the best works from promising future researchers in Operational Research.

Although the topic of the special issue is open to all fields of OR, it is expected that each paper has at least two of the following three features:

• it is applied, because it involves the application of scientific methods to the management of real-world complex systems of people, machinery, materials, money and information;
• it is advanced, because it uses highly developed tools inspired by new technologies of information processing and new scientific paradigms related, among others, to mathematical modeling, knowledge acquisition and management, system dynamics and man-machine interactions;
• it is analytical, because it resolves problems by cutting them off from a larger context and modeling them in terms of basic principles.
