Torsten Pieper, Assistant Editor

External link  Welcome from the Editor

‘If ever a field needed greater attention and more outlets for theory and research, family businessis it. The proportion of family business related journals to overall journals is negligible. The proportion of family businesses to all other  businesses is overwhelming as is the contribution of family businesses to Gross World Product (GWP), employment and employment growth (IFERA, 2003). It is with this in mind that we embark on this journey of discovery and launch a new scientific journal: The Journal of Family Business Strategy (JFBS)…’ (Joseph H. Astrachan, Editor-in-Chief and Torsten M. Pieper, Associate Editor). External link  Read the rest of their Welcome from the Editor.

What does the academic community have to say about Journal of Family Business Strategy?

Shaker A. Zahra, Robert E. Buuck Chair of Entrepreneurship and Professor of Strategy and Organization, Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota

‘Family firm research has come of age. After decades of treating family firms as a side issue in the strategy and entrepreneurship literatures, research on the strategic issues confronting family firms of all types has now assumed a central stage in the field. Journal of Family Business Strategy addresses these important challenges on a global scale. With its board membership and authors representing every corner of the globe, the journal is well positioned to influence the field, family firm decisions and public policy of all political leanings. Bold in its approach, ambitious in its goals, and careful in the scholarship it publishes, Journal of Family Business Strategy is destined to have a significant and unparalleled impact.’

Danny Miller, Chair in Family Enterprise and Strategy, HEC Montreal and University of Alberta

‘Although the importance of family business as a dominant form of organization is well established, and the centrality of strategy to corporate success has long been recognized, the critical interface between the two domains remains relatively unexplored.  Both domains are the poorer for the lack of an adequate understanding of that interface.  The Journal of Family Business Strategy aims to address that problem, and with its exceptionally gifted team of editors and reviewers, I am confident that it will succeed.’

James Chrisman, Professor of Management, Mississippi State University, USA

‘The field of family business is growing rapidly and therefore the creation of the Journal of Family Business Strategy is timely. I know of no one better suited to lead the development of a new journal on family business than Joe Astrachan. The combination of his experience and the highly capable editorial team he has assembled suggest that the journal will be a valuable source of knowledge to those interested in the study of family firms.

Dean Shepherd, Editor of External linkJournal of Business Venturing, and Randall L. Tobias Chair in Entrepreneurial Leadership and Professor of Entrepreneurship at Kelley School of Business, Indiana University

‘The Journal of Family Business Strategy is a new journal serving the important community of family business scholars.  The editorial and review teams are well known scholars in the field.  I welcome the journal to the management and entrepreneurship fields.’
