Dear reader,
I am delighted to inform you that, as of the beginning of 2007, articles published in your journal will be available on average five days after acceptance; four-to-six weeks earlier than previously.
We introduced a new type of Articles in Press: ‘Accepted Manuscripts’, on ScienceDirect in December. ‘Accepted Manuscripts’ are manuscripts which have been peer-reviewed and selected for publication by the journal editors; but have yet to be edited by our typesetters.
These ‘Accepted Manuscripts’, which are in PDF format, can be found in the ‘Articles in Press’ section of the journal on
ScienceDirect. The date of their posting will be carried through to the final printed article. As soon as the manuscript is posted on ScienceDirect, the author will be automatically notified.
Additionally, ‘Accepted Manuscripts’ are citable using the DOI (Digital Object Identifier), a number unique to each article, which will not change during the production process or thereafter. They are also searchable on title, author name and full text.
As each manuscript moves through the publication process, ‘Accepted Manuscripts’ will be replaced by the ‘author corrected proofs’ version of the article, which usually happens a number of weeks later.
This improved access to accepted articles represents a significant step forward in reducing publication delay and promoting rapid dissemination of new research work.
I hope you will be pleased with this initiative.
Kind regards,
Charon Duermeijer
