Dr. Begoña Barroso received a PhD in chemistry from the University of the Basque Country (Spain) working in the application of electroanalytical techniques to the analysis of pharmaceuticals in biological fluids. After that she had a postdoc position at the National Institute of Public Health and Environment (RIVM, Bilthoven, The Netherlands) where she specialized in the coupling of CZE to MS for the analysis of peptides and proteins.
Later on she joined the pharmaceutical industry (Organon, Oss, The Netherlands) where she worked as research scientist in protein analysis and from there she moved into biotechnology (Pharming, Leiden, The Netherlands) where she took part in the development of human therapeutic proteins expressed in transgenic animals. Nowadays, she works as assistant professor (tenure-track) in the RuG.
Professor Rainer Bischoff graduated with a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Göttingen (Germany). While there, he researched novel stationary phases for the separation of transfer RNAs by HPLC. This work was performed at the Max-Planck-Institute for Experimental Medicine. After a 2-year postdoctoral in Purdue University, West-Lafayette, USA (in Professor Fred E. Regnier's lab) focusing on the development of affinity separation matrices for nucleic acids, he started as a research scientist at the biotechnology company Transgene S.A. (Strasbourg, France).
In his function as group and project leader, Prof. Bischoff worked on the production and analysis of recombinant proteins for pharmaceutical applications, the discovery of novel proteins involved in infectious disease and on the development of novel gene transfer vectors based on non-viral vehicles. Prof. Bischoff's career continued as assistant director and section manager at AstraZeneca R&D in Lund (Sweden), where he signed responsible for protein chemistry and high-throughput assay development.
