Elsevier MDL And Oakwood Products Partner To Improve Chemical Sourcing
Agreement enhances timely, accurate product data in industry-leading MDL® Available Chemicals Directory database
San Ramon, CA and West Columbia, SC - January 31, 2007 - Elsevier MDL and Oakwood Products are working together to help researchers in pharmaceutical, agrochemical, polymer, coatings and academic research locate and acquire chemical materials with improved ease and reliability.
Under the partnership, Oakwood Products provides Elsevier MDL with regular electronic updates of product and pricing information from Oakwood Products chemical catalogs. The collaboration facilitates timely updates to the industry-leading MDL® Available Chemicals Directory (MDL ACD) database, which compiles data from suppliers around the world. The partnership also includes a data exchange that simplifies the ordering process for Oakwood Products’ chemical materials by referencing the MDL number found in the database.
"For nearly 15 years, we have been providing our data to Elsevier MDL for inclusion in the Available Chemicals Directory database. We consider MDL ACD to be an extremely valuable resource for distributing our product list and have included the MDL numbers in our catalog CD and on our Website", said Richard Tracey, President of Oakwood Products. "In many years attending various tradeshows and expositions, we are invariably asked by our visitors, Are you in the ACD database? because ACD is one of their primary tools in sourcing chemicals."
Oakwood’s products are designed for chemists who require chemical building blocks for combinatorial chemistry, parallel synthesis and medicinal chemistry needs. Their newest product lines of fluorinated aliphatics and aromatics, secondary aliphatic amines, aromatic halides, boronic acids and esters and heterocyclic iodides are unique and not currently available anywhere else.
"Timely updates to sourcing information on products like these from Oakwood Products are critical to researchers," said Dr. Trevor Heritage, Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of Elsevier MDL. "Our partnership with Oakwood Products represents yet another step in our ongoing efforts to extend the value of the most comprehensive, up-to-date compilation of chemical sourcing information from around the globe."
The MDL Available Chemicals Directory and the MDL® Screening Compounds Directory databases compile and index detailed product and pricing information for millions of chemical products from hundreds of suppliers. The searchable databases are available for in-house installation and are also accessible through the online DiscoveryGate® platform and the MDL® Isentris® system for managing, accessing, analyzing and sharing proprietary and commercial information within scientific workflows. Both systems enable researchers to view chemical sourcing information linked with synthetic methodology, bioactivity, metabolism, toxicity and health and safety information. Researchers can also leverage the value of the Available Chemicals Directory through the MDL® Logistics application for sourcing reagents and managing in-house chemical inventories.
