Elsevier MDL and Matrix Scientific collaborate to improve chemical sourcing
Agreement enhances timely, accurate product data in industry-leading MDL® Available Chemicals Directory database
San Ramon, CA and Columbia, SC - September 11, 2006 - Elsevier MDL and Matrix Scientific are working together to help researchers in pharmaceutical, agrochemical, polymer, coatings and academic research locate and acquire chemical materials with improved ease and reliability.
Under the partnership, Matrix Scientific provides Elsevier MDL with regular electronic updates of product and pricing information from Matrix Scientific chemical catalogs. The collaboration facilitates timely updates to the industry-leading MDL® Available Chemicals Directory database, which compiles data from suppliers around the world. The partnership also includes a data exchange that simplifies the ordering process for Matrix Scientific chemical products by referencing the MDL number found in the database.
“The inclusion of MDL numbers in our printed catalogs and advertising media will be a huge benefit to our customers,” said Hiram S. Allen, President, Matrix Scientific. “We are very pleased with the results we have achieved over many years of inclusion into MDL Available Chemicals Directory. At a recent American Chemical Society (ACS) national exposition we surveyed people about where they looked when searching for research chemicals. The number one response was MDL Available Chemicals Directory. We look forward to a long and beneficial association with Elsevier MDL.”
The Matrix Scientific product catalog includes over 17,000 products, featuring boronic acids, fluorine compounds, sulfonyl chlorides, pyrimidines, indoles, trifluoromethyl pyridines and others, including many compounds unique to Matrix Scientific.
“The ability to quickly access timely sourcing information on products like these from Matrix Scientific is important to researchers,” said Dr. Phil McHale, vice president, solutions product management at Elsevier MDL. “We’re pleased to announce this working relationship with Matrix Scientific, which represents yet another step in our ongoing efforts to extend the value of the most comprehensive, up-to-date compilation of chemical sourcing information from around the globe.”
The Available Chemicals Directory and the Screening Compounds Directory databases from Elsevier MDL compile and index detailed product and pricing information for millions of chemical products from hundreds of suppliers. The searchable databases are accessible through the online DiscoveryGate® platform (allowing researchers to view chemical sourcing information linked with synthetic methodology, bioactivity, metabolism, toxicity and health and safety information). They are also available for in-house installation. Researchers can also leverage the value of the Available Chemicals Directory and close supplier relationships with companies like Matrix Scientific through the MDL® Logistics application for sourcing reagents and managing in-house chemical inventories.
Matrix Scientific, started in 1999, is an outgrowth of over 40 years of experience that Hiram Allen has in the manufacture and distribution of specialty chemicals. Companies worldwide use Matrix Scientific as a source for building blocks and unique research chemicals and also take advantage of their ability to offer custom and contract synthesis. Matrix Scientific offers products from milligram to multi-kilogram scale. With many strategic global partners, Matrix Scientific is positioned to be a one stop, full service supplier to the research chemist’s requirements.
