New York, May 15, 2006 – Elsevier, a leading information provider for scientific, technical and medical communities, has appointed Scott Virkler to be responsible for the overall development and execution of its strategy in the fast-growing multi-billion dollar internet Search marketplace. Virkler was previously with GlobalSpec, a leader in vertical search, and is joining Elsevier as Vice President of Web Strategy & Business Development.

“Scott Virkler’s experience in building a successful, fast-growing company like GlobalSpec that targets Science and Engineering professionals will be a valuable complement to Elsevier in today’s rapidly changing online environments”, said Nick Fowler, Elsevier’s Director of Strategy.

While at GlobalSpec for the last five years Virkler played a critical role in GlobalSpec’s success. He was responsible for developing the company’s overall strategic direction and business relationships, and developed successful third-party partnerships with Google, Yahoo, eBay, IEEE, AutoDesk, large original equipment manufacturers and a variety of publishing partners.

Prior to joining GlobalSpec Virkler served as director and manager of Global Corporate Sourcing for General Electric. During his six years at GE, Virkler served as Corporate and Business Process Consultant for Manufacturing and Supply Chain Solutions for GE Information Services and as a team leader in the GE Transportation System. He was also a Master Black Belt of GE’s famous “Six Sigma” process.

A recipient of a Masters of Business Administration degree from Gannon University in Erie, PA, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Virkler served in the U.S. Air Force from 1987 to 1993.
