Elsevier's Polymer Journal POLYMER Celebrates its 50th Anniversary

Free access offered to over 80 feature articles and a polymer science symposium commemorate the journal’s growth and success

Amsterdam, 6 April , 2010 - Elsevier, the world leader in scientific, technical and medical publishing and online solutions announced the journal Polymer is celebrating its 50th anniversary by making 80 feature articles freely available on its dedicated 50th anniversary of Polymer website, at www.polymer50.com.

The journal was established in March 1960 as one of the first scientific journals in the field with the support of the British polymer scientific community. In recent years, its impact has been growing steadily (latest impact factor 3.331) and its spectrum of topics covered has been expanding considerably, from nanotechnology to energy, environmental and bio applications of polymers. Today, Polymer is a truly international journal, with papers submitted from 73 different countries and available in 100 countries.

Professor Stephen Z. D. Cheng, Dean of the College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering at the University of Akron, USA and Senior Editor of Polymer, said, “In the last 10 years Polymer has evolved into one of the best established international forums in the polymer scientific community and one of the top choices for submitting and publishing high-quality work on a very wide range of topics.”

Frontiers in Polymer Science Symposium
The journal announced a second international symposium “Frontiers in Polymer Science” will take place from 29 – 31 May 2011 in Lyon, France. The organizers hope to repeat the success of the first symposium in 2009 which featured 15 recognizable plenary speakers, including two Nobel Laureates, and attracted 679 participants (203 of them students) from 60 different countries. More information on the event can be found on www.frontiersinpolymerscience.com.

Dr. Rumen Duhlev, publisher of Elsevier’s polymer journals for the last ten years commented. “For the 2011 symposium we have assembled an entirely new group of 15 equally impressive plenary speakers, including a Nobel Laureate, representing many of the most exciting research directions in modern polymer science, often at the borderline with other disciplines. Please pencil this event on your 2011 calendar. We hope to see you in Lyon”.
