Academy Of Nutrition and Dietetics Names University of Iowa Professor as Editor-In-Chief of Journal
Philadelphia, PA, January 16, 2013 – The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics announces that, effective June 1, University of Iowa epidemiology professor and registered dietitian Linda Snetselaar, PhD, RD, LD, will become the editor-in-chief of the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Snetselaar is also the endowed chair and associate head for admissions and curriculum at the university. She will serve as the sixth editor-in-chief in the Journal’s 88-year history.

Bergman. “Dr. Snetselaar’s impressive history in the research field, along with her vision and capability to lead will undoubtedly help continue the esteemed reputation of the Journal as one of the leading peer-reviewed publications in the field of nutrition and dietetics.”
Snetselaar’s 40-year career has been dedicated to higher learning and research fields, most notably serving as principal and co-principal investigator in the Lipid Research Clinic and other National Institutes of Health studies. As the director of the nutrition center in Iowa, Snetselaar’s projects guide future health professionals, incorporate wellness in worksites and counsel parents and teens.
“I envision the Journal as a wonderful opportunity to advocate for the Academy and foster collaborative networking relationships,” Snetselaar said. “I plan to expand its breadth by reaching out to a diverse group of practitioners and researchers to ensure the Journal includes research covering a broad spectrum of methodological approaches and topic areas. The Journal will uphold a reputation as an unbiased source for cutting-edge research made available in a timely fashion.”
As the Journal’s editor-in-chief, Snetselaar will oversee the research section, along with the Journal’s board of editors and reviewers. She will follow the current Editor-in-Chief, registered dietitian Linda Van Horn, PhD, RD, whose 10-year tenure ends on May 31.

Snetselaar received her bachelor’s degree in dietetics from Iowa State University and interned at the University of Iowa, where she also earned a master’s degree in nutrition in the Department of Internal Medicine and a doctorate in health sciences education. She received the National Cancer Institute Women’s Health Initiative Recognition Award in 1996 and the Medallion Award from the Iowa affiliate of the American Dietetic Association (now Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) in 2006. She has served on several editorial boards, published more than 90 peer-reviewed articles and authored two books. She sits on numerous National Institutes of Health Study Sections that focus on diabetes, heart disease, cancer and other chronic diseases.
