Mosby’s Nursing Skills endorsed by AACN

Online skills and procedures reference gets nod from largest specialty nursing organization

St. Louis, September 7, 2006 – Elsevier, the world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and healthcare information, is pleased to announce that the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) has endorsed Mosby’s Nursing Skills, an online nursing skills and procedures reference solution.

Mosby’s Nursing Skills provides healthcare organizations with enterprise-wide access to a robust collection of high quality nursing skills content, as well as an effective tool for documenting assessments of staff competencies.

“We believe Mosby’s Nursing Skills is well aligned with the AACN’s vision and are pleased for it to be the first online product our organization has endorsed,” said Justine Medina, Director of Professional Practice and Programs for AACN. “We’ve had a long-standing relationship with Elsevier and admire the high quality of their products.”

Mosby’s Nursing Skills is comprised of several of Elsevier’s industry leading references including Perry & Potter’s Clinical Nursing Skills & Techniques, 6th Ed., Proehl’s Emergency Nursing Procedures, 3rd Ed., and AACN Procedure Manual for Critical Care, 5th Ed.

“We are proud that the largest and most influential association for specialty nurses has endorsed our newest electronic product,” said Leslie Zacks, Director of Clinical Products at Elsevier. “With Mosby’s Nursing Skills we strengthened our commitment to meet the specialized needs of critical care nurses.”

With more than 480 interactive skills and supplemental content including patient handouts, Mosby’s Nursing Skills is the most complete skills product available. Each skill module offers customizable, step-by-step descriptive text with the option of a quick review or a detailed, complete skill.

Recognizing the unique responsibilities nurse managers have, Elsevier embedded management tools into the reference system. These tools allow managers to establish learning criteria for the nursing staff, assess and evaluate staff competency, customize instructional material to the organization, and create a variety of reports to measure performance.

As a credit to its high quality nursing skills content, Mosby’s Nursing Skills has already been adopted by several high-profile institutions, including Good Shepherd Health Systems in Longview, TX. “The breadth and depth of critical care content was a major factor in our decision to adopt the product,” said Inger Zerucha, Medical/Surgical Clinical Education Coordinator. “We plan to use it for new nurse orientations, yearly skills competency exams, remediation programs and as a base for policies and skills reference materials institution-wide.”
