Randolph Charles joins Elsevier

Named Executive Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer for the company’s Health Sciences Division.

Philadelphia, March 30, 2005 - Elsevier is pleased to announce that Randolph Charles has recently joined the company, in the capacity of Executive Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer, for Elsevier’s Health Sciences Division. Mr. Charles will be responsible for all Health Sciences marketing, as well as Elsevier Canada. He will be part of the Health Sciences Division Management Group and will be based in Philadelphia, where the division is headquartered.

Mr. Charles comes to Elsevier with a wide range of marketing experience. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President, Customer Relationship Marketing at Rodale, Inc. where he developed and drove change to CRM approaches from traditional direct mail marketing. Earlier, Mr. Charles held a variety of increasingly responsible sales and marketing positions at the Times Mirror Corporation, including Vice President of Marketing and New Business Development for Newsday, Inc.; Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Mosby Matthew Bender; and Senior Vice President for Consumer Marketing and President of the Marine Group, Times Mirror Magazines.

Mr. Charles began his career as a consultant with McKinsey & Company where he worked primarily with media and information companies. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University, where he graduated summa cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and an M.B.A. from Harvard University, where he was a Baker Scholar.
