Huygens on quadrature
HUYGENS, Chr. Theoremata de quadratura hyperboles, ellipsis et circuli. 1651.
Illustrations from the excessively rare first edition of the first publication of the famous scientist Christiaan Huygens, Dutch mathematician and astronomer, on the quadrature of hyperboles, ellipses, and circles. During his career Huygens made several observational discoveries that would make him world famous, including the discovery of Titan (a satellite of Saturn). The French king Louis XIV appointed him a founding member of the Académie Royale des Sciences.
