Title page of the French/Latin/Greek trilingual edition of one of John Amos Comenius’s principal works, the Janua linguarum reserata, or The gate of tongues unlocked. In it Comenius experimented with a new pedagogical technique of providing subject- and situation-based phrases in multiple languages, presented side-by-side. The textbook became a great success and went through countless editions in many languages.
