Hello and welcome to Linguistics Corner. My name is Chris Tancock and I am the Publisher at Elsevier for our language and linguistics journals. Linguistics Corner is a forum for you to find out more about those journals and the publication process. So if you have any questions at all, feel free to drop me a line.
I need to publish open access, so can I do this?
Yes, of course! All our linguistics journals have both ‘gold’ and ‘green’ open access options. For more information, have a look at the relevant journal’s homepage or https://www.elsevier.com/about/open-science/open-access. Don’t forget there is also our flagship pure OA journal: Ampersand.
How do I submit to your journals?
There are submission instructions on each journal’s homepage. Just have a look at the ‘Guide for Authors’ on the top left of each homepage and then, when you’re ready: click ‘submit your paper’ just underneath the guide for authors button.
How do I find out the IF of the journal?
If a journal is included in the Journal Citation Reports, then its Impact Factor will be displayed and promoted on the homepage. Check out the ‘Journal Metrics’ box on the left hand side and the IF (if there is one for that journal) will be there along with other metrics like the SJR and SNIP. You can also explore a journal’s metrics in the “Journal Insights” box.
How long does it take to get published in the Journal of Pragmatics?
The average editorial time for JoP (at the time of writing – August 2015) is 30 weeks to final decision and then it’s just four weeks for online publication and another six for print publication.
