British Macrofossils Onlinewins the 2015 International Data Rescue Award in the Geosciences

We proudly announce the winner of the 2015 InternationalData Rescue Award in the Geosciences. The award — a stone trophy and $ 5,000 —was presented to British Macrofossils Online, developed by the BritishGeological Survey (www.bgs.ac.uk) to create a fully electronic catalogue of all the fossil collections in UKmuseums and similar repositories. The project team consisted of Mike Howe,Caroline Buttler, Dan Pemberton, Eliza Howlett, Tim McCormick, Simon Harris andMichela Contessi working alongside a number of other contributors.
Next to the main award, three projects were singled out forhonorary mention:

  • “Imiq – A State-of-the-Art Hydroclimate Database and Web Portal” by Jessica Cherry, Tom Heinrichs, Amy Jacobs, Jennifer Delamere & Will Fischer
  • “GlobalSoilMap” lead by Dominique Arrouays & Johan Leenaars
  • “The Bugs Coleopteran Ecology Package (BugsCEP)” by Philip Buckland, Paul Buckland, Erik J. Eriksson, Fredrik Palm & Eva Panagiotakopulu
