Effects of Climate Change on Forests: An Evidence-Based Primer for Sustainable Management of Temperate and Mediterranean Forests presents concepts, case studies and the application of theories about forest management under climate change. It provides invaluable insight to how forest planning and management tie into the ecological functioning and resilience of the forest, and does so by utilizing a concept weakly implemented in traditional forest planning: namely, by following the variability in growth, and other processes, over time. This shift in focus better incorporates the services provided by forests, and allows for better adaptation planning to help temperate forests not only survive but thrive in the face of climate change. Real-world case studies demonstrate how to effectively manage temperate forests under climate change, using the results of evidence-based research.

In the past 5 years, there has been a tremendous increase in interest regarding diagnosis and management the cardiac involvement in sarcoidosis. This includes new imaging techniques, new evidence-based guidelines regarding diagnosis and treatment, as well as results of registries providing information regarding the outcome of disease. With this new information, the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac sarcoidosis has become better served. Many centres are now developing multi-disciplinary clinics and conferences to evaluate and treat these patients. These clinics highlight the problem that many different specialities are involved in the care of these patients. A book focusing on the different aspects of the disease will give a reference source for these efforts.Cardiac Sarcoidosis: A Multi-discipline Approach focuses on an important aspect of sarcoidosis: cardiac involvement. From pathology to diagnosis and screening of the disease through treatment options, the book comprehensively reviews known knowledge and explores emerging topics in the field, accompanied by illustrative cases and evidence-based recommendations in outlining the best disease management practices. The book is written by international experts in the field and serves as an essential reference for both clinicians and researchers on cardiac sarcoidosis.

The series "Fish Physiology" recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary. In total, the editors of the series have produced a total of 47 books (several volumes have two books) that contain almost 500 chapters since the inaugural volume published in 1969. The content of the "Fish Physiology" volumes has evolved over time. The initial volumes were devoted to understanding the basic mechanisms and principles of fish physiology, with a focus on a few model species and some application to natural environmental conditions. Then, as the field better understood mechanisms, the approach was broadened to not only delve deeper into system physiology (e.g., chapters in early volumes were expanded to become books), but interspecific differences in physiology were explored, permitting a more evolutionary framework. Finally, as interspecific physiological mechanisms were further resolved, it became possible to discuss physiology in light of a changing world. Thus, physiology can now inform on conservation, sustainability and management, as exemplified with the most recent volumes. This anniversary issue celebrates the series by highlighting some of the very important early work in the field that was published in the Series. In particular, we wished to (re)introduce new researchers to this research that has stood the test of time and that shaped the field. Each re-published chapter is preceded by a short review written by experts in the field to provide an overview/introduction of each selected chapter, discuss what is particularly noteworthy or important in the particular chapter, and discuss why in their opinion this chapter has become a classic in its own right and how it has inspired the field of fish physiology today.

Small Lungs and Obstructed Airways: Reassessing Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease proposes an alternative perspective to current explanations for the distribution of chronic lung disease. The book considers the link between chronic respiratory disease and associated mortality with smaller lungs rather than obstructed airways and explores other factors contributing to poor lung health besides the current emphasis on the roles of air pollution, occupational exposures, and cardio-metabolic disease. It presents the findings of the Burden of Obstructive Lung Disease (BOLD) study, sharing new views on the prevalence of obstructive lung disease and risk factors across various global regions. Sections cover decreased lung function, including the prevalent views on the impact of both household and external air pollution, occupational exposure, and the prenatal and postnatal/childhood environment in the etiology of impaired lung function and COPD. The book then moves on to discussions on the impact poverty and nutrition has on lung health, sharing the findings of the BOLD study regarding its effect on lung function and risk of COPD in lower-income countries. The book closes with a chapter outlining the clinical and public health implications of the findings discussed in the book.

Cytokine Response Against Major Human Viral Infections provides coverage on the role and mode of possible impact of cytokines on disease pathogenesis and host immune response. Cytokines, as a part of innate immunity, favor the development of antiviral and TH 1-type immune responses. Cytokines also affect the adaptive immune response and disease manifestation. This book gives a comprehensive introduction to clinical manifestations of viral and infectious diseases, explains the role cytokines in DNA virus infections, RNA virus infections, and in reverse transcribing virus infections, and gives insights into recent advances and strategies in diagnostic tools and therapeutic and prophylactic measures. This book is a milestone to understanding the immunological response against various viral infections for both researchers in immunology and virology, as well as for those in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.
