Sara Cherry earned her bachelor’s degree at UC Berkeley and her Ph.D. at MIT with Dr. David Baltimore where she studied V(D)J recombination and early B cell development. She then moved to Harvard Medical School as a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Norbert Perrimon where she developed Drosophila as a model to study viral infection. She moved to the University of Pennsylvania in 2006 and is currently an Associate Professor of Microbiology. Dr. Cherry uses genetic and genomic approaches to study virus-host interactions of arboviral pathogens with a focus on intrinsic immune factors.
