Prof. Dr. Ralf B. Schäfer (Phd 2008) is head of the working group “Quantitative Landscape Ecology” in the Institute for Environmental Sciences at the University Koblenz-Landau. His main expertise is the response of freshwater ecosystems to anthropogenic stressors. He focuses on freshwater invertebrates and microorganisms. Many of his studies targeted the exposure and effects of organic toxicants. His research deals on the one hand with basic ecological questions such as drivers of community assembly in real landscapes and on the other hand the identification and prediction of single and joint effects of stressors. Methodically, he relies on field experiment and field studies as well as spatial, statistical and ecological modelling. He has published more than 80 papers in ISI journals including in leading multidisciplinary journals such as Science and PNAS.
