Begoña Jiménez is Senior Research Scientist at the Institute of Organic Chemistry IQOG-CSIC (Madrid, Spain). Her research focuses on the environmental chemistry of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems with the ultimate goal of understanding their fate and behavior in the environment. Dr. Jiménez’s research is based on sampling designs, field work and the use of different chromatographic separation techniques coupled to different mass spectrometry detection systems in order to identify and quantify legacy and emerging organic contaminants. She has contributed to the scientific knowledge on the occurrence, fate and potential effects of POPs in the environment and wildlife species from protected or hot-spot areas such as the Antarctica, Doñana National Park or the Mediterranean Sea using nondestructive approaches.
