Dr. Arjen Markus (Adriaan Albert (A.A.) Markus in publications) joined Deltares after studying physics at the Technical University of Delft. He has been working on the modelling of water quality problems for many years now, both applying the modelling software developed and maintained at Deltares and helping to develop and expand this software. In 2012 he started a PhD project at the University of Amsterdam on the release, transport and fate of engineered nanoparticles in the aquatic environment, which he successfully completed in 2016. His research interests include, but are not limited to, water quality and ecology in marine, estuarine and riverine environments, that is nutrient cycling and primary production, but also emerging contaminants like nanoparticles and microplastics.
