Nirav Shah, MD, MPH, is the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Clinical Operations at Kaiser Permanente. Previously, he was the 15th New York State Commissioner of Health. As Commissioner, he administered the state’s public health insurance programs, oversees the regulation of hospitals and other health care facilities, and supports public health and prevention initiatives. He also was Attending Physician at Bellevue Hospital Center in Manhattan, Associate Investigator at the Geisinger Center for Health Research in central Pennsylvania, and Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Section of Value and Comparative Effectiveness at the NYU Langone Medical Center. In addition, he was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at UCLA and a National Research Service Award Fellow at New York University. Shah received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard College, and his medical degree and master’s degree in public health from the Yale School of Medicine.
