Professor Richard A. Williamsis currently the Pro Vice Chancellor and Head of College for the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. He was previously the Anglo American plc Professor of Mineral and Process Engineering at the University of Leeds. Prior to this he undertook undergraduate and PhD studies at Imperial College London and was formerly a Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at UMIST. He was at the University of Leeds from 1999 to 2011 and was founder of the Institute of Particle Science and Engineering (IPSE) with some 130 researchers working on measurement, modelling and manufacture of particles and colloidal products. His research interests are in particle separation, colloid aggregation and precision emulsification. He also previously worked on the development and application of tomographic techniques from 1988. He is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE). He is a visiting Professor of the Chinese Academy of Science and the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney.
