Patient X Week Three Update
The highlight of our week was our Ideation meeting with the experienced Elsevier mentors Tim and David. We were able to discuss ideas of how to increase initial user engagement and what platforms would be most suitable to use for the initial launch.
The highlight of our week was our Ideation meeting with the experienced Elsevier mentors Tim and David. We had a team conference call before this meeting and were able to discuss the key features that were essential to include in our demo prototype. Some of our concerns and questions that we wanted to ask for guidance and these were addressed in our Ideation mentoring session.
With regards to the user, we were unsure about whether or not to broaden our target user beyond the pre-clinical medical student transitioning to their clinical placements. We have definitely taken on the feedback given to us on board, and have agreed that a narrower audience should be kept for our first prototype. We were also able to discuss ideas for how to increase initial user engagement and what platforms would be most suitable to use for the initial launch.
The mentors have provided positive feedback regarding the medical education problem that we would like the chatbot to solve. However, we also plan on creating surveys to pass onto our medical student peers in the coming weeks, to gauge user interest and the prevalence of our team’s proposed “problem” within medical education around the world.
In our team meeting, we had quite a lengthy discussion about the key features that we thought were necessary in the demo prototype. However, given the limited time constraints as well as the complexity of our chatbot, it would be very challenging to tackle. Some of these extra features include voice recognition, case input system for universities and a user feedback system. The Elsevier mentors were extremely helpful in reminding us that we are creating a MVP at the end of this incubation programme and that it is important to focus on our main key feature working seamlessly and effectively. Our main goal is to use this chatbot to provide students with a safe simulation of working up a patient case from start to finish. This involves putting their knowledge to the test through the interaction with the chatbot which guides the medical student through the process of history taking, ordering investigations, deciding upon a diagnosis and providing the most appropriate treatment. Ultimately, we will ensure that our key feature, the chatbot, fulfils this aim.
We were also given some handy tips by the Elsevier mentors, ways in which we can maximise the amount of content delivered in the pitch such as survey results, within the short time period. This was encouraging and reassuring as we were initially concerned about the time limit of the pitch.
We are excited for the development mentoring next week and for the medical side of things, we will start creating our demo prototype patient case so that our developers can hit the ground running! That’s all for our update this week but we will be posting on our social media channels so stay tuned!
