Meet the mentors
During the two-day hackathon, mentors coached the teams. Their objective was to provide guidance and to help evolve an ‘ok’ project into a cutting-edge prototype.

After training in hospital medicine, John entered general practice and was a GP trainer and part-time lecturer in general practice at the University of Manchester. He was senior lecturer/ associate professor in the Leeds Institute of Medical Education, University of Leeds and Professor in Medical Education at the University of Sheffield before moving to Edge Hill University in 2016. John has research interests across the medical education continuum, from undergraduate to postgraduate and continuing.

Assistant Professor of Medical Informatics SQU, Oman
Ken has been involved in education for over 30 years, and medical education for over a decade. His prime areas of interest include educational theory, and the softer areas (e.g. ethics) and their connection to doctor and patient user-interaction with the relevant technologies in health care.
Head of the Centre for Technology and Innovation, University of Dundee, UK
Natalie has been involved in digital learning in medical education for 15 years. Natalie’s interests include the design, usability and learner experience in digital learning spaces and she’s partnered with students in the co-creation of online learning environments and supported many students as producers of learning.
Dr Poh-Sun GOH, MBBS, FRCR, FAMS, MHPE, FAMEE
Associate Professor and Senior Consultant, Department of Diagnostic Radiology, National University of Singapore
Poh-Sun has been practicing as a clinical radiologist for the last 26 years, and teaching at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and National University Hospital (NUH) for the last 23 years. He has been developing and evaluating eLearning platforms and solutions for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and learning for the last 15 years.

David has spent the last sixteen years in e-product development and management in the higher education sector. Prior to working at Elsevier, David managed the Mastering platform, an innovative adaptive higher education science learning and assessment platform.

Before joining Elsevier, Jon worked for IBM Interactive Experience, a leading global digital agency. Jon specializes in ideation, design thinking, digital development and business change strategies. He has led innovation and agile development teams at companies as disparate as Deutsche Bank, Jaguar Land Rover and Castrol; always with 100% focus on providing great user experiences.

Kavin has spent seven years doing strategy consulting for companies like PwC, Simon Kucher and most recently within RELX group. In the last three years he has been supporting Elsevier on the commercialisation of its products, working closely with the sales teams and institutional customers.

Gemma runs Elsevier’s education marketing group across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia Pacific. Working with Medical & Nursing schools and their students to provide them with world class medical content and digital solutions to help make learning and teaching more effective. When not hard at work, she can be found kickboxing, in a yoga class or pounding the pavements around London.

Alison leads regional marketing teams to strategize and implement campaigns that consistently drive revenue and elevate awareness of Elsevier as a leading provider of information, analytics and tools to improve healthcare outcomes. She spearheaded the setting up of a new digital, data & analytics center of excellence within Elsevier. Prior to Elsevier, Alison had successfully led global teams at BP Castrol, AstraZeneca and Kellogg’s, as the Global Head of Digital Marketing.

Brittney is a Java engineer focused on creating efficient and maintainable backend microservices for Elsevier’s healthcare education platform. She works to implement software engineering best practices in a fast-paced Agile environment.
