Jinwoo Cheon, Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea
Jinwoo Cheon is a Director of Center for Nanomedicine, Institute for Basic Science (IBS) and Horace Underwood Professor of Chemistry at Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. He graduated from Yonsei University with his B.S. and received his Ph.D. from University of Illinois at Urbana. After his post-doctoral study at U.C. Berkeley and UCLA, he started his academic career at KAIST in 1998 as an assistant professor. Since 2002, he has been a professor at Yonsei University. At Yonsei, he has served as a director or a division head for centers such as National Center for Evolutionary Nanoparticles (2010-2015), National Research Lab. (2006-2010), and NanoMedical National Core Research Center (2004-2010). He is a recipient of a number of awards including Ho-Am Prize, Korean Chemical Society Academic Award, Inchon Prize, ChungAm Prize, and Presidential Young Scientist Award. He is a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (F-RSC) and an American Chemical Society Fellow (ACS-F). Since 2009, he has been a Senior Editor of Accounts of Chemical Research (ACS).
His research interest covers interdisciplinary themes which include the “rational design” of inorganic nanomaterials and the development of “nanoscale probes and tools” for biomedical sciences.
