Publishing Workshop at the 3rd International Conference on Desalination Using Membrane Technology,
Sunday 2 April, 13.00 – 15.30
The workshop will take approximately 2.5 hours and cover best practice for journal publishing.
The first module “A Publisher’s Guide to Writing and Publishing Scientific Manuscripts” (How to Get Published in a Research Journal) covers topics such as type of paper to write, most suitable journal to submit to, tips on English language, how to build up the paper, the submission process and peer-review. This module will take about 90 minutes including questions.
After a short break, the second module “Author’s Responsibilities and Rights” will cover publishing ethics such as multiple submission and plagiarism as well as who actually owns the published paper and what the author can do with it. This module will take about 45 minutes.
The speakers will be Mr Dean Eastbury of Elsevier Ltd, Oxford, UK who currently publishes Desalination and Journal of Water Process Engineering and Professor Nidal Hilal, Swansea University, UK who is Editor-in-Chief of Desalination.
The workshop is suitable for people who have little experience of preparing papers for publication, but expect to do so in the future. It is not suitable for undergraduates.
