Talk: Membrane scale-up, system improvement and commercialisation strategies using hollow fiber membrane for high efficiency membrane distillation
Sebastian Hernandez is a Chemical and Environmental Engineer currently working at START-NTUitive in development, scale-up and systems design of polymeric membranes, desalination, separation and downstream processes, functional materials, and data analysis. Applications include water and wastewater treatment, gas separations, super absorbents, micro, nano and ultrafiltration, membrane distillation, and functional coatings.
Chemical Engineer from the National University of Colombia, Bogotá D.C. in 2002. Master’s degree in Civil Engineering at University of Los Andes specialized in advanced oxidation, and photo-catalytic processes. PhD in chemical engineering, University of Kentucky, USA. Research and Development in functional membranes and development of different nano-structured materials and their applications in water detoxification and desalination. Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Kentucky and at Monash University in Australia. Use of functionalized membranes in layer-by-layer functionalization to capture mercury towards water reuse in refinery. Worked and advised in technology transfer between the R&D and the manufacturing phases to commercialize graphene membranes.
