Chris Johnson is Head of the Vaccine Preventable Diseases Programme and Deputy Director of Health Protection at Public Health Wales.  Chris started his public health career at the Health Protection Agency as an environmental scientist where he specialised in Chemical Incident Management and Land Contamination. 

He completed the UK Public Health Training Scheme in 2016 and worked for a number of years as a Consultant in Health Protection responding to cases and outbreaks of communicable disease in Wales.  Through the COVID-19 pandemic Chris supported the design and delivery of Test, Trace Protect in Wales, and in August 2021 he took over as Head of the Vaccine Preventable Diseases Programme at Public Health Wales.
