Talk: Batch reverse osmosis technology for brine concentration and zero liquid discharge (ZLD)
Philip Davies is Professor of Water Technology at University of Birmingham, UK. He has over 30 years of research gained in academia and industry. The aim of his current research is to achieve sustainable utilization of water and energy resources in arid regions.
This includes research into desalination and water treatment, brine management, solar-powered cooling using seawater, seawater greenhouse technology, and negative emissions technologies. Philip participates in several international projects in regions including Middle East, North Africa, India, and Europe. Together with colleagues from Pandit Deeyandal Energy University in Gujarat, he coordinates the DBT-EU Horizon 2020 project ‘INDIA H20’. This project aims to develop, design and demonstrate high-recovery, low-cost water treatment systems for saline groundwater and industrial wastewaters in arid regions of India. He also participates in the EU project ‘IntelWATT’ in which he is contributing to metal plating wastewater treatment and recovery. Philip is a Board Member of the European Desalination Society and a member of the International Desalination Association. He holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College, London, and a D.Phil from the University of Oxford.
