Efrem Curcio

Dr. Efrem Curcio is Full Professor (since 2020) at the Department of Environmental Engineering, University of Calabria (UNICAL) – Italy, and associate researcher at the Institute on Membrane Technology – National Research Council of Italy (CNR). He received PhD in Chemical Engineering and Materials in 2005 at the University of Calabria. Visiting Scientist (2012) at the Department of Chemical Engineering – MIT Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Boston, US), and Visiting Professor (2019) at the Facultad de Ingenieria y Ciencias – Universidad Adolfo Ibanez (Santiago del Cile, CHILE).

Co-author of >140 papers on peer-reviewed international journals (H-Index 46 – source: Scopus), 4 books (edited by Elsevier, Imperial College Press, De Gruyter), and >160 publications in conference proceedings in the field of membrane science and technology. Recipient of the European Membrane Society Award 2004 for the best published paper in Membrane Science and Engineering. The participation and the coordination of several international research projects (inter alia: MISTI/MIT; VII EU Framework Programme MEDINA, DEMCAMER, BIOART, REAPOWER; Horizon 2020 AMECRYS, REMIND, SEA4VALUE; ERANET-MED EXTRASEA; Horizon EU EXBRINER, MEASURED etc.) certify more than twenty years of experience in the development of advanced membrane processes, with pioneering contributions in the field of Integrated Membrane Systems for seawater desalination, Membrane Crystallization for mineral recovery from brines, Photothermal Membrane Distillation. He is CEO of Seligenda Membrane Technologies Srl, a start-up company of UNICAL and CNR.
